Benakis, Alexandros L.

Alexandros E. Benakis (1891-1963) was the son of Loukas, brother of Emmanouil Benakis, and first cousin of Penelope Delta. He was chairman of the Choremis and Benakis Cotton Company and a philanthropist involved in sports clubs and scouting. He was married to Dawlat Rassem. He died in Alexandria (Egypt). Cavafy’s distribution lists indicate that he possessed three collections by the poet.

Baud-Bovy, Samuel

Samuel Baud-Bovy (1906-1986) was born and died in Geneva (Switzerland). He was a musician, having studied piano, violin, composition and musical direction; he also studied Modern Greek in Paris with Hubert Pernot and in Athens (Greece), where he focused on Byzantine music. He authored studies on traditional Greek music and Modern Greek Literature. He was professor of Modern Greek Language and Literature at the University of Geneva (1942-1958) as well as a teacher at the Geneva Conservatory of Music.

Batistatos, Panagis

Panagis Batistatos was born in Athens (Greece) in 1900; he studied Law. His first short story was published in 1916 in the journal Ellin. Another short story of his, “I arrostia kai o thanatos tis Zinas”, narrating the painful experience of the death of his three-year old sister, was included in the anthology Oi neoi diigimatografoi of A. D. Papadimas (1923). Batistatos died in Athens in 1923.
