Administrative history

The three Armenian brothers Viçen, Hovsep and Kevork established the “Abdullah Frères” photographic studio in Istanbul, which operated from 1858 to 1899 with branches in Izmir and Cairo. In 1862, the three brothers became the official photographers of the Sultan’s Court. In this context, they were asked to photograph the Ottoman Empire in the late 19th century. Their business was sold to Sebah & Jollier in 1899.
