History
Aram Alban (real name: Arnaoudyan) was an Armenian photographer. He was born in Istanbul (Turkey) in 1883 and died in Cairo (Egypt) in 1961. In 1895, he moved to Alexandria (Egypt) with his family. He opened his first studio in 1910, before moving to Brussels (Belgium) in the 1920s and then to Paris (France). He was established as an art photographer and was known for his talent and personal style as well as for his influence on the history of photography in the Middle East. He was the mentor of many younger Armenian photographers. He returned to Egypt in 1940.
