O αρμενικής καταγωγής φωτογράφος Aram Alban (πραγματικό όνομα Arnaoudyan) γεννήθηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη το 1883 και πέθανε στο Κάιρο το 1961. Το 1895 εγκαταστάθηκε με την οικογένειά του στην Αλεξάνδρεια. Το 1910 άνοιξε εκεί το πρώτο του φωτογραφείο. Τη δεκαετία του 1920 μετακινήθηκε στις Βρυξέλλες και στη συνέχεια στο Παρίσι. Καθιερώθηκε ως καλλιτέχνης φωτογράφος με αναγνωρισμένο ταλέντο και ιδιαίτερο, προσωπικό ύφος. Άφησε το στίγμα του στην ιστορία της φωτογραφίας στη Μέση Ανατολή και υπήρξε ο μέντορας πολλών κατοπινών ομοεθνών του φωτογράφων. Επέστρεψε στην Αίγυπτο το 1940.
