On the basis of the context, it is deduced that the letter is addressed to John Cavafy; it should be dated to late 1898 or early 1899, on the basis of a reference to the publication of poems by Cavafy, in the Aigyptiakon Imerologion 1899 of Drakopoulos (pub. 1898).
