The purpose of the letter is to inform the poet of Paul's moving to L'Almanarre, Hyères, where he is now residing in the villa of an English general (Villa Pomponiana), serving as his secretary. Paul expresses his satisfaction for the conditions under which he is living and working, and comments extensively on general De Horsey himself and his acquaintances.
