Homemade book consisting of typewritten sheets, printed broadsheets and manuscripts. The "title page" is made of a cover from the 1910 poetry collection of Cavafy, with the printed title "C. P. Cavafy's Poems" and the indication "Alexandria 1910". Below the word "Poems", the handwritten note by John Cavafy "Englished by J. C. Cavafy". It is preceded by a quote of unknown authorship and followed by four pages of contents, with the poem titles in English. They are followed by the English translations of the poems. A total of forty-three of Cavafy's poems are translated. Their titles are either typewritten or handwritten. In some instances, there are inserted printed broadsheets with the poems in Greek or parts of prints affixed on the existing pages. Cancellations and emendations in most translations, be they handwritten or typewritten. The date indication "1912" on one of the broadsheets. The 71 pages of the book are numbered, either typewritten or handwritten. The printed broadsheets are not included in the page numbering. The front and back covers are blank.

The sender is asking Singopoulo's permission to publish English translations of Cavafy's poems, as part of an article he is writing for an English journal. Handwritten letter by Rae Dalven to Alekos Singopoulo on the recto of two sheets. Blank versos. The second page is numbered. Dalven asks Singopoulo's permission to publish poems by Cavafy in an anthology of modern Greek poetry she is preparing in English. The financial terms are clarified and the titles of twelve poems are mentioned. (New York)

It is followed by five pages of contents and the poems in English. The pages are numbered ("i-v" and "1-64") at bottom centre. The volume includes forty-three poems, all typewritten. Only in two instances, when a quote from an ancient author is include, the Greek text has been handwritten by John Cavafy. In that case, John has added his English translation, copied from a publication, on an piece of paper covering the Greek text.

On page 79, an advertisement of Forster's works and of an issue of the The Criterion, in which English translation of the poem "Ithaca" by Cavafy has been published. The handwritten note "Sic semper" ("Always like that", obviously by Forster) in ink in the margin. Accompanied by envelope addressed to Cavafy. The mail rubber stamp provides the date 21/7/1924.
