The collection was printed at the Kasimatis & Ionas printing house in Alexandria, in 1910. It has been bound with a hardcover. Handwritten dedication by Cavafy to N. Vatimbella on the title page.

It contains 21 poems and comprises a total of 46 pages, of which 3 to 39 are sequentially numbered; [40] is blank, without numbering and followed by pages 41-42 with the Contents. Two copies. One of the copies contains an inserted sheet with the poem "Walls" on the recto and page number "40". The poem is written by Rica Singopoulo and is not included in print in any of the copies. Its title has been filled-in by hand in the table of contents as well (page 42). Handwritten dedication by Cavafy Vlasis Gavriilidis in the title page of the second copy. Each copy is printed on paper of different quality.

The collection contains twenty-one poems. Page numbers are indicated ("3" to "39") at centre bottom of the sheets. Handwritten emendations by Cavafy in some of the poems (pages "12, 20, 23, 29, 31-32, 36"). The table of contents and the last blank page are missing; the verso of the latter bore the details of the printing house (Kasimatis & Ionas). The bifolio constituting the front and back covers has been detached. The book is accompanied by two Press clippings. One is from the Tachydromos of Alexandria, dated 13/4/1958, and contains an article by Manolis Gialourakis, entitled "Perimenontas tous varvarous. Ligoselidi syllogi tou C. P. Cavafy", pertaining to the poetry collection of 1904. The other clipping, from the newspaper Vima, dated 10/10/1968, contains an article by G. N. Kranidiotis entitled "Anekdota poiimata tou Cavafy".

Handwritten list with chronological indications (1891-1912) and poem titles, on 13 pieces of paper of various sizes. Several titles are abbreviated. Some chronological records are indicated as "rewriting" and are accompanied by the title of the poem to which they refer. Cancellations and emendations throughout the list. Apart from three parts of the item, the rest bear writing (by hand or printed) on either side. The versos of five parts of the item have a different theme (not a chronological list). The sender, a friend of Cavafy's according to him, announces the publication of a study on modern Greek poetry in La Nouvelle Revue Française, which will include a presentation of the poet's work. He asks Cavafy's permission to include in the study French translations of poems of his ("Waiting for the Barbarians", "Ithaca", "Walls"). The poet is also asked to send a series of poems and accompanying material to the author of the study, E. Eleftheriadis. Extensive reference to the friendly relations between sender and recipient. Cavafy thanks Lapathiotis for his appreciation and support to his work, and informs him that he is sending two poetry collections of his. He encloses a handwritten list with the publications of earlier poems in issues of the journal Nea Techni. Accompanied by envelope with Lapathiotis' address in Athens. (Alexandria)

Handwritten letter by Georgios Vafopoulos to Cavafy in a bifolio with notes on the recto of the first and second sheet. The author sends Cavafy an issue of the journal Makedonika Grammata, in which an article of his on the poet has been published; he mentions a conflict with the journal Nea Techni and asks to be allowed to study his entire work, with specific reference to the poem "Waiting for the Barbarians". Dalven asks Singopoulo's permission to publish poems by Cavafy in an anthology of modern Greek poetry she is preparing in English. Handwritten letter by Raphael Demos to Takis Kalmouchos on both sides of a sheet. The sender, professor of philosophy at Harvard University and translator of Cavafy's poems, asks Kalmouchos to send him a draft printout of the planned publication of the poet's Complete Works. The letter is accompanied by two pages from the journal The New Republic containing the English translations of the poems "Waiting for the Barbarians" and "Thermopylae", together with a brief introduction to the life and work of Cavafy. Cavafy's poetic work is commented upon extensively; remarks regarding the publications until that time and reference to poem titles ("Candles", "Waiting for the Barbarians" etc.).
